A mad bunch of girls and boys who do what has to be done because someone has to do it. We range from the fabulously fit and fast to the wiser more sedate aficionado. We welcome you all – young and old, phoenix or slinky racer owner, lanky or proud of paunch, girl or boy – we care not. We do care that you join us for many miles of fun, dust and occasional fumes…
What the Club does…
We ride bicycles. Any bicycle. Arusha Cycling Club members ride regularly both for recreation and training. Since 2010, we have also been lucky enough to have the voluntary services of a retired Danish professional cyclist and coach who is boosting our training to a whole new level. Thank you Bengt!
Some Achievements
The Arusha Club now has over 50 members and over the last 8 years we have grown to become the most prominent and respected club in Tanzania. We have consistently produced the best cyclists in Tanzania with our club riders and teams repeatedly taking first place as well as the majority of the first 10 places in all the main races staged in Tanzania – the Karibu Arusha Cycle race (hosted by the Arusha Cycling Club), the Vodacom Mwanza race, the Dodoma race as well as other races in different regions of Tanzania. In 2007 and 2008, the Arusha Cycling Club sent a team to the Tour de Rwanda – a 9 day stage race where they competed favourably with national teams from Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Uganda. In Dec of 2009, the club was invited to send a team to Jinja, Uganda to participate in a 3 day stage race and were able to take first place. In 2011, the club has competed at international level twice in Rwanda, and once in Eritrea at the African Championships.
What we ride…
We ride both mountain bikes and road bikes. You don’t have to have an amazing bike – some of the bicycles club members ride are very old, but are still pedalled at amazzzzzzzzing speeds…
How we ride…
We make a point of accommodating everyone as best we can. There are some serious athletes in the club, and there are some even more serious recreational riders… verging on becoming serious athletes, even though they are in denial! But we welcome riders of all levels – and provide riding opportunities that we hope cater for everyone’s interest and fitness level.

And just for the record…
The Arusha Cycling Club was formally registered with the Tanzania Sports Association in February of 2003. The founding members all had one common interest which was anything to do with bicycles and biking.
